Essential Fatty Acids - Omega-3, Omega-6, Omega-9 and GLA

Essential Fatty Acids Essential Fatty Acids

Essential Fatty Acids brings together the Omega-3, Omega-6 and Omega-9 essential fatty acids (EFAs) often lacking in the modern diet. This product is a combination of flaxseed and borage oils and provides a perfect balance of the fatty acids essential for cell membrane structure and cardiovascular health.

Essential Fatty Acids is designed for adults concerned about their intake of Omega-3, Omega-9 and the Omega-6 essential fatty acids called gamma linolenic acids / GLA. This group includes people, such as vegetarians, who do not eat fish.

Flaxseed oil is the richest vegetable source of Omega-3, Omega-6 and Omega-9 fatty acids. Borage oil is the richest source of an Omega-6 fatty acid called GLA. Very few foods other than borage oil, evening primrose oil, and breast milk contain this essential fatty acid.

Essential Fatty Acids are Important Nutrients

Essential fatty acids are important nutrients that we tend to neglect. They are required for certain vitamins and minerals and, just as you needs a certain combination of vitamins and minerals on a daily basis, the correct essential fatty acids balance is also required.

Essential fatty acids do not make you fat. The body recognises essential fats as 'good' for you and uses them for healing, fat burning and growth. Essential fats act as antioxidants, anti-inflammatory agents, and produce enzymes to burn fat. You must ingest a source of fat called gamma linolenic acid / GLA to stimulate your brown fat cells into burning away your white fat cells.

Borage Oil

Borage oil is a good source of gamma linolenic acid / GLA.

Essential fatty acids are necessary to support a variety of cellular processes. They maintain the integrity of cell walls and membranes, generate energy, produce hormones and they are needed for normal brain, nerve, and eye function.

Each essential fatty acid has a distinct role in the optimal functioning of the entire body. Essential fatty acids include alpha linolenic acid / ALA; gamma linolenic acid / GLA; eicosapentaenoic acid / EPA and docosahexaenoic acid / DHA.

Flax seed oil

Up to 80% of the fatty acids in leafy green plants is in the form of alpha linolenic acid / ALA, but the overall lipid content is low so leafy plants do not contribute significant amounts of alpha linolenic acid / ALA to our diets. Fish contains only trace amounts of alpha linolenic acid / ALA, but flaxseeds is by far the richest source of alpha linolenic acid / ALA.
