Active Colostrum+ is a product made from colostrum and prebiotics.
Colostrum has been the subject of research for around 15 years,
and Active Colostrum+ is the first product based on colostrum taken from Swedish cows.
The major benefit of Active Colostrum+ is that the colostrum provides
a large number of antibodies and growth factors, as well as vitamins,
minerals and proteins. Active Colostrum+ also contains a prebiotic called Inulin.
This is a non-digestible carbohydrate that stimulates the beneficial intestinal bacterial.
All ingredients are classified as foods, and are microbiologically safe.
The vegetable capsules are coated with ingredients that make them
resistant to gastric juices, so the entire capsule reaches the large
intestine before starting to work.
Food supplement Active Colostrum+ contains nutrients that are
beneficial to the body’s immunological defence.
Colostrum is the first milk produced by the
cow after giving birth. Around 50 litres are produced,
but the calf requires only about 14 litres. The surplus can
be removed to make other products, without being
detrimental to the calf in any way.
In addition to a large number of antibodies, colostrum contains
growth factors, vitamins, minerals and proteins. Lactoferrin
is one important protein found in relatively large quantities
in colostrum. It is the first line of defence in the immunological
defence system, and has an antibacterial effect. The growth
factors help to heal wounds and stimulate cell renewal, which
is why colostrum is commonly used in anti-wrinkle cream.
When the colostrum is taken from the cow, fat and
lactose are removed by filtration to maximize the concentration
of antibodies in the finished product. This filtration is done at
low temperature because heat would destroy the antibodies.
The manufacturing method used for Active Colostrum+ produces
an antibody concentration of nearly 70 %, which is the highest
concentration possible. After filtration, the milk is freeze dried - a
gentle process that means that the product is not subjected to heat,
thereby preserving the antibodies. The colostrum can then be used
in other products.
In 1908, the Russian zoologist and immunologist,
Eliya Metchnikof, discovered that food could stimulate lactic
acid-producing bacteria in the intestines. These food ingredients
later became known as prebiotics, which are defined as
non-digestible food ingredients that may beneficially affect
the host by selectively stimulating the growth and / or the
activity of a limited number of bacteria in the colon, and
that have the potential to improve health. The intestinal
bacteria that can improve our health in this way are
bifidobacteria and lactobacteria.
A non-digestible food ingredient is a type of
food that is not digested and absorbed in the small intestine,
but reaches the large intestine where it can be fermented by
the active intestinal bacteria.
Inulin as a Prebiotic
Inulin is the name of a group of oligosaccharides found
in the roots of chicory and Jerusalem artichokes.
Like other oligosaccharides, inulin is an efficient prebiotic.
Studies have considered the impact of inulin consumption on the beneficial
bacteria flora in the intestines.
The findings show that intake
of inulin increases the number of bifidobacteria and
lactobacteria in the intestines, and reduces the number
of clostridia and enterobacteria.
